Founder and Director of Contemporary Artists’ Services, Sylvia White has been advising artists on all matters related to business, marketing and exhibitions since 1979. Considered a pioneer in the field of professional practices for visual artists, White has presented workshops and lectured extensively on career management skills. A graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Fine Arts, her workshops and lectures have been sponsored by, among others; California College of the Arts and Crafts, Chicago Art Institute, Otis Art Institute, Claremont Graduate School, Artists’ Equity, San Francisco Art Institute, California Institute of the Arts, University of Southern California, California Arts Council, California College Arts Association, National Conference and The National Endowment for the Arts.
The CAS consultation is designed to help visual artists develop the skills they need to manage their own careers. Included is information regarding exhibition and marketing alternatives, galleries, resumes, documentation, contracts and business negotiations; career assistance for emerging artists and an extensive mailing list.
Long term career management is provided to artists on a selective basis. For a monthly retainer, based on a one-year contract, we assist select artists in their approach to appropriate galleries, museums, critics, curators and private art consultants locally, nationally, and internationally. Depth of services rendered and appropriate fees are determined on an individual basis.
Sylvia White has organized exhibitions in conjunction with dozens of galleries and museums around the world. She has also traveled around the country giving seminars and lecturing to university and artist groups. Please contact us for information about arranging a Career Development Skills Workshop.
