This June Agora Gallery delves into originality with Unbound Perspectives, a sweeping group exhibition showing new ideas from all over the world. Unbound Perspectives is important for its range - the methods and influences in this exhibit are as varied as any other collective show this season. Acrylic and oil are represented of course, but so are ink, watercolor, wood inlay, digital photography, and painted fabric. When these works are presented next to each other, a bigger image of the state of contemporary art emerges.

Unbound Perspectives illuminates questions of identity, representation, and the inner mind. There are several kinds of portraiture on display: shadowy visions of the female figure draped in otherworldly chains, symbolic compositions featuring characters in fully-realized alternate universes, and dramatic moments captured from real-life scenes. Among the landscapes one can find perhaps the greatest range of styles, from streamlined, blocky depictions of single trees to abstracted layering of textures to crisp digital images of urban spaces without a blade of grass in sight.

Unbound Perspectives opens June 10 and runs through June 30, 2017 with an opening reception on Thursday, June 15 from 6-8 pm. Entrance is free.
