Endless Entire highlights 58 members of American Abstract Artists who engage with the circle, a form often associated with perfection, although it can seldom be found as such in nature. The artworks gathered here show us where these artists find circles, how they use them, and how they break the form apart.

Many artists in this group toy with the flexibility of the circle’s geometry: altering its shape, using it as a starting point for serial play, or extracting its curves into hand drawn improvisations.

The form is also relied upon for its symbolic meanings: it encapsulates the organization of our social lives (with the idea of the “inner circle”), as well as the cyclical forces that operate upon our planet, from our own lives to the rhythm of seasons, from the tidal changes to the forever renewed, meditative practice of drawing enso in Zen Buddhism.

Finally, some of the artists featured in this exhibition converse directly with their materials and experiment with the three-dimensional shaping of circular forms.

American Abstract Artists is a democratic artist-run organization founded in 1936 to promote and foster public understanding of abstract and non-objective art. AAA contributed to the acceptance and development of abstract art in the United States and has a historic role in its avant-garde. Since its inception, American Abstract Artists has continued its mandate as an advocate for abstract art.
