For more than 30 years, Napa CA based artist Gordon Huether has contributed large-scale, site-specific artwork to the public realm. His work includes integrated architectural installations, freestanding sculptures, and immersive artwork for landscape settings. He works extensively with glass and lighting and frequently uses repurposed objects, metals, and synthetical materials in his work. Each project tells a different “story,” and the materials used for each piece work to shape, define, and construct that story. With every project and commission, Huether works closely with all stakeholders to develop a thorough understanding of the use and experience of the site.

Huether has created a great number of projects in the San Francisco Bay Area, a few of which are: the San Jose Fire Station #17, installations at BART Stations in San Bruno, a more recent one at the Oakland Coliseum Station, and an upcoming memorial for the San Jose Police Department. In 2015, Huether and his team were selected to contribute to the Terminal Redevelopment Program at the Salt Lake City International Airport, one of the largest construction projects in the United States. It will feature several large-scale art installations by Huether and is scheduled for completion in 2020.

A collection of Huether’s work, entitled Public Art and Private Treasures, will be on display at Art Ventures Gallery in Menlo Park, CA from July 8th through September 6th. The exhibited work showcases his fascination with light, color, repurposed materials and the perfect composition.

On July 12 from 5-7pm Gordon Huether will give an artist talk about his fine art, public art projects, and visions.
