Shoebox Projects presents Mike McLain and Carolina Calling

Country:

Categories:

Date:
Sunday, 13 August 2017
Opening:
Sunday, 13 August 2017 - 3:00pm to 6:00pm

In this Shoebox Projects residency, Mike McLain will create work that is a dialogue with his own personal childhood memories of racism while growing up in the Carolinas. Through a large installation that uses a variety of imagery, sculpture, drawing and video work, McLain wants to explore his family history of white privilege and its legacy of slavery, Jim Crow and segregation. McLain hopes to gain understanding of how racism is perpetuated in white culture and help the public see a path beyond the bigotry and prejudice inherent in this country’s history.
