This year we honor the five women who made prints at VanDeb in 2016. 

They are Marina Adams, Nancy Azara, Andea Belag, Joanne FreemanClaire Seidl and Dee Shapiro. All of the artists are mid career engaged in lively art making and exhibiting. The show runs from March 1-31. Wine and Cheese reception for the artists is March 9 6-8 pm at The Standard Motors Building Lobby. 37-18 Northern Blvd., Long Island City, NY.

Women’s History Month had its origins as a national celebration in 1981 when Congress authorized and requested the President to proclaim the week beginning March 7, 1982 as “Women’s History Week. Since 1995, Presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama have issued a series of annual proclamations designating the month of March as “Women’s History Month.” 

Marina Adams is a painter based in New York City and Parma, Italy. She earned degrees from Tyler School of Art, Temple University and Columbia University's School of the Arts. Solo exhibitions include Galerie Gris, Hudson, NY, Hionas Gallery, NYC, and CUE Art Foundation, NYC. Her work is currently on view at Salon 94, NYC.

Nancy Azara exhibits nationally and internationally. Her work has been shown at the AIR Gallery, Dumbo, NY; St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church, Brooklyn Heights, NY; Saci Gallery, Florence, Italy; Andre Zarre Gallery, NYC; Froelick Gallery, Portland, Oregon and the SANYI Museum in Taiwan.

Andrea Belag's paintings and works on paper have been widely exhibited and collected throughout the US and internationally, in venues that include; The Jewish Museum, Pera Museum, Istanbul, Turkey, Mead Museum, Amherst, Mass., Newark Museum, NJ, New Jersey State Museum, and Jeddah Collection, United States Embassy, Saudi Arabia.

Joanne Freeman: Joanne Freeman received a B.S. in Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin and an M.A. in Studio Art from New York University. She shows her work extensively in solo and group shows. Selected one-person shows include: Kathryn Markel Fine Arts, New York, NY. 490 Gallery, Brooklyn, NY. University of Maine Museum of Art, Portland Me., Lohin Geduld Gallery New York, NY. ,  Au 9, Galerie d’art, Casablanca, Morocco, The Bess Cutler Gallery, New York and Santa Monica CA., Marc Jancou Gallery, Zurich, Switzerland, White Columns, New York, NY. and The Queens Museum, Flushing, NY.

Claire Seidl is best known as an abstract painter. She exhibits her work at museums and galleries nationally, in Europe and in Asia. She has shown paintings and photographs at the Portland Museum of Art, the Center for Maine Contemporary Art, the McNay Art Museum, the Aldrich Museum, and the Noyes Museum.

Dee Shapiro began her career as a pattern painter and was included in the Pattern and Decoration exhibit at P. S. 1. Incorporating the geometric intricacy of cityscapes she uses pattern in ink, paint and collage in her current projects. Her work is included in the Albright-Knox Museum, Dayton Institute, Everson Museum, William Louis Dreyfus Family Collection, IBM Corporation, The Guggenheim Museum and Pepsico Corporation.
