Alexandra Harley and Alex McIntyre met through the artist led organization Free Painters and Sculptors in 2013 and began to work towards a joint exhibition. Their conversations are grounded in a mutual fascination with movement and transition explored from different perspectives. Alexandra Harley’s sculpture references and captures moments of movement in space whilst Alex McIntyre’s drawings distill the experience and recollection of journeys within a landscape.
Harley is a London based sculptor exhibiting regularly both in the UK and internationally. She teaches sculpture at colleges in central London and was the Associate Artist at Chelmsford College between 2012 – 14. In 2015 she was selected for the first Anguilla Sculpture Symposium and was awarded the Brian Mercer Award for which she undertook a bronze-casting residency in Pietrasanta, Italy during 2016. A forthcoming group exhibition featuring Harley’s work at the Royal British Society of Sculptors will mark the tenth anniversary of the award. Recent exhibitions include the Creekside Open with APT Gallery selected by Lisa Milroy, 2015 and Discerning Eye, Mall Galleries, 2014.
McIntyre completes a 5-year artist fellowship at Digswell Arts (www.digswellarts.com) in 2016 and is setting up a new studio space in collaboration with Blackberry Forge Ltd. She has held AIR positions with Middlesex University 2008-2010 (with whom she also completed a Masters in Fine art 2007), Brent Museum and Archives (2010-11), English National Ballet (2013), and Watford Museum 2014. Recent exhibitions include the tenth and eleventh editions of The Other Art Fair, London in 2015 and 2016, Art Fair East, Norwich, 2015.
This exhibition explores different perspectives on movement and transition by bringing together sculpture in wood by Alexandra Harley (MRBS) and drawings in ink and gesso on board by Alex McIntyre.
